Spectacular views, privacy, and quality define Rock Haven Cabin, which sits on 5 acres adjacent to Joshua Tree National Park. Our eco friendly cabin has been newly renovated to create an atmosphere of exceptional comfort, beauty and serenity. In an effort to live more sustainably in the desert we have installed solar power, and a rain water catchment system. This is the perfect place to unplug – you can soak in the private spa with a sweeping view of the National Park, curl up with a good book on a lounge on the patio, or cook a gourmet meal in the fully equipped kitchen.
The cabin can sleep 4, with a king bed in the bedroom and a sectional sofa with a pull out sleeper bed in the living room. Being the small gem that it is, it is ideal for 2 people or a couple with children. Luxury linens, including bathrobes and slippers are provided. There is a beautiful, simple to use, wood stove (kindling and wood provided) in the living room, in addition to baseboard heating in both rooms. A new and efficient evaporative cooling system provides comfort in the summer, and there is a gas barbecue outside. There are lounge chairs on the porch along with a wrought iron table and chairs for dining a la fresco.
The private 2-person spa is next to the porch, sheltered by junipers and a large boulder formation. We only use Dead Sea and Epsom Salts in the spa tub, emptying and cleaning it after every set of guests. The water is used on the landscape.
You can view wildlife right from the front porch, including quail, road runners, jack rabbits, tortoises, coyotes, the occasional bobcat and many varieties of birds. We, and the folks in our area, are committed to keeping the sky dark in our neighborhood which makes for fabulous star gazing.
For the adventuresome, you can hike into the park from the cabin, or if you want to explore it more fully, drive to the West Entrance, a half-mile away. The park is renowned for its world class rock climbing. It also offers excellent hiking with hundreds of trails ranging from easy nature walks to strenuous mountain hikes. Both Kathy and Eva are very familiar with Joshua Tree National Park, having been instructors here with Outward Bound some years ago, and are happy to share their knowledge if requested.
The local area has plenty for you to discover in addition to the beauty of the national park. The village of Joshua Tree is a short drive from the cabin, where you can check out the Park Visitor Center, explore a variety of gift shops and art galleries, or hunt for treasures at local thrift stores. There are several good restaurants, a health food store, and a Saturday Farmers’ Market. Joshua Tree also has an excellent yoga studio with a full schedule of classes.
The Joshua Tree art scene is vital and eclectic with regular gallery openings and nearly 200 artists (of which Eva is one) living in the area. There is an Open Studio Tour each fall, and many artists welcome visitors at other times by appointment. Live music can be heard almost any day of the week at Pappy and Harriets in Pioneertown, and Joshua Tree holds annual music festivals in the spring and fall. There are also three live theater venues in the area with a variety of interesting offerings.
There is something very special about the peace and spaciousness of the desert, and regardless of the time of year, Rock Haven Cabin offers a wonderful opportunity to relax and unwind in comfort.
